The world is unceasingly documented by an ever watching digital eye on our phones, computers, buildings, self check-outs, atms machines, police officers, drones. Nonlinear recalls previous recordings of the space and crossfades it with live video; it invites attendants to dictate their image stored as they interact. As participants approach this work they are confronted with a nonlinear iteration of lived experiences and the invasive banality of surveillance. “Surveillance Art is the use of technology intended to record human behavior in a way that offers commentary on the process of surveillance or the technology used to surveil.” By combining live video with previous recording we begin a conversation about our engagement to institutions and rethink the relationship of people to larger systems of control.
